Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national consulting firm, is currently seeking a full-time Project Archaeologist-Field Director with a Master's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and field experience in the Midwest. We're looking for someone with a good work ethic, enthusiasm for learning new things, and excellent writing skills. You'll join our growing team of archaeologists and environmental professionals to help our customers comply with federal and state cultural resources and environmental laws. This individual will work with a team of environmental professionals from across the company to conduct environmental analyses and deliver quality documents supporting our federal, state, local, and tribal clients under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and other applicable federal and state regulations for environmental resource management.
In this position, you will lead archaeological fieldwork throughout Midwest, including Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Illinois and will supervise small teams of field technicians to conduct cultural resource inventories for a variety of our federal, state, local, and tribal clients. You will manage field generated data including site forms, GIS files, photos, and artifact analysis forms. You will participate as a primary or secondary author of inventory reports and will assist with the development of resource management recommendations. We intend to provide you with experience and training that will allow you to achieve Principal Investigator status in multiple states. Specific tasks will include completing field surveys, documenting archaeological and historic built environment resources, preparing technical reports, and writing resource sections of larger NEPA documents. Aside from the archaeology, we will also train you on compliance with NEPA and other environmental laws. Strong writing skills are required and experience with GIS is preferred. For the right candidate, this position has the potential to provide rapid growth.
You will also serve as task manager supporting NEPA Project Managers in successful execution of deliverables, which includes marketing, scope and fee developments, and management of task schedules and budgets. Coordination with clients and/or resource agencies is key to success and, therefore, strong communication skills are required. All Wilson & Company environmental staff work collaboratively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across the firm to meet project goals, and with other key staff to build relationships both locally and in all states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.
