Public Works Mechanic/Operator 3

The position performs specialized equipment operation to assist with department operations and ensures equipment safe for the road by providing maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of vehicles and equipment.

Examples of duties include fabricating metal objects, maintaining parts and tool inventory, assisting in training other employees, operating heavy and light construction equipment, performing general road maintenance, and ensuring all activities are carried out in a safe manner.

Typical qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, technical certification in automotive or heavy equipment, knowledge of mechanical repair methods, and the ability to operate mobile equipment safely.

Physical and work environment characteristics include occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force, sitting, using hands to handle equipment, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to hazardous chemicals and inclement weather.
