Assistant High School Cheer Coach

Aurora High School - Aurora R-VIII School District

The Aurora R-VIII School District is seeking a positive, dependable, and student-centered individual to serve as Assistant High School Cheer Coach at Aurora High School. This position supports the Head Cheer Coach in developing a high-quality cheer program that promotes school spirit, sportsmanship, leadership, and pride in Aurora High School.
Position Overview

The Assistant High School Cheer Coach works under the direction of the Head Cheer Coach and Activities Director to support daily operations of the cheer program. The assistant coach plays a key role in instruction, supervision, and mentoring student-athletes while helping maintain a positive and safe team environment.
Primary Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Cheer Coach with organizing and supervising the cheer program
• Help plan and conduct practices, performances, and events
• Supervise cheerleaders at athletic contests and school activities
• Assist with teaching proper techniques, safety procedures, and performance skills
• Support team discipline, accountability, and academic expectations
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and coaching staff
• Assist with tryouts, team selection, and off-season activities as directed
• Uphold district policies and MSHSAA regulations

Qualifications

• Prior cheer or coaching experience preferred
• Ability to work effectively with high school-aged students
• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
• Commitment to student development and education-based activities
• Must meet all MSHSAA and district coaching requirements

Terms of Employment

• Seasonal stipend position
• Length of season and compensation per district schedule
• Employment contingent upon successful background check and board approval
