Job Description Job Description Job SummaryDennis Group Civil Engineers focus on the land development and infrastructure for our industrial projects that involve designing and building new food and beverage process facilities. Our civil engineers have strong technical and design ability and excellent communication skills in designing land development plans, building pads, infrastructure for new buildings, landscaping, and everything from the foundation and below. Civil engineers are part of our Building Systems department and work closely with structure engineers and architects/designers. They are also involved with bid evaluation and local contractor initial contact in multiple project locations. The role is highly valuable at Dennis Group and faces engineering challenges that require strong calculation skills and for experienced engineers to have a Professional Engineer License (PE). As a member of our civil team your responsibilities may include but not limited to:ResponsibilitiesApplies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignmentPerforms moderate design tasks, receives guidance when necessary, on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteriaPrepare partial to complete project documentation, including complete CAD drawingsPerforms procurement tasks such as bid list development, contractor initial contact, bid tabulation, and preliminary bid evaluationHas understanding of discipline specific plan elements, and how to navigate a set of drawingsPerforms construction administration tasks including complex submittal reviewRespond to RFIsSmall to Mid-size project primary client technical contractDevelop site basis of design documentEdits project specificationsDevelop parking lot layout that satisfies development ordinances and regulationsAnalysis and detailed design of institutional, industrial, and commercial buildings sitesReview historical site drawings to determine if site objectives align with existing conditionsUnderstanding of pavement materials, design of pavement sections, and construction methodsDetermines land use characteristics and assign runoff coefficientsCalculate times of concentrationsPre-development hydrologic analysis for simple sitesDelineate complex watersheds and determine how to model watershedDevelop design approach for site factoring in topography, exiting drainage conditions, outfalls, site constraints, etc.Detention pond design and outlet control structure to meet pre-development discharge rateDesign of channel liningsAdvance site grading using Civil 3DTrust restraint calculations for pressure systemsUnderstanding of BMPs for EPSCPrepare storm drainage reportPreparing engineering calculations and engineering sketchesPreparing land development plans, site grading, utility and drainage design for planning, permitting and construction for food and beverage processing facilities.Reviewing drawings and coordinating the project teamPreparing bid packages and providing construction administrationDevelop bidder listVisiting project sites to observe field conditionsEvaluating design constraints and resolving problemsResearching civil engineering materials and best practicesSupporting talent growth within our organizationProvide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.Required Education Skills and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering4-7 years of experience in civil engineer tasks involving industrial construction projects (foundation and below aspects - design land development, building pads, and infrastructure for new builds, etc.)4-7 years of experience in drainage, grading and utility design for industrial or commercial projects.4-7 years of experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3DAbility to travel to project sites as needed (15 days a year)License: EITPhysical RequirementsProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.Travel RequirementUp to 25% travel required to visit project site and other offices.About UsWe plan, design, engineer, and build food plants for major brands across the country and the world.
