GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Credit Reporting and Bankruptcy Specialist I is responsible for accurately reporting all credit and bankruptcy stages to the credit bureaus. Reviews and responds to all credit disputes and processes all bankruptcy documents. Works closely and communicates effectively with other internal departments regarding all bankruptcy information to ensure the most accurate credit reporting. Maintains a strong working knowledge of the credit reporting requirements and regulations under the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Responsible for accurately reporting the bank's credit reporting to all applicable credit bureaus. Maintains a strong working knowledge of the credit bureaus regulatory changes and updates. This duty is performed about 20% of the time.
- Reviews all credit disputes received in accordance with FCRA requirements. Responsible for researching each dispute and recording pertinent information in the core system. This duty is performed about 25% of the time.
- Receives and processes incoming bankruptcy documents. Accurately reports all stages of bankruptcy into Metro II to inform credit reporting agencies of current bankruptcy status. This duty is performed daily 20% of the time.
- Answers routine inquiries and questions from customers and banking center personnel related to loan documents, titles, and real estate title work. This duty is performed about 15% of the time.
- Monitors the accuracy of the data file that is sent to credit bureau agencies by reviewing matrix reports from the agencies and is responsible for clearing up exception errors notes. This duty is performed about 10% of the time.
- Works with other internal departments and makes recommendations of relevant information that should be documented to provide more accurate credit reporting. This duty is performed about 5% of the time.
- Responds to inquires in person, email, and/or phone in an efficient, timely, and professional manner. This duty is performed about 5% of the time.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. Reads, writes, and communicates in a clear and efficient manner via various types of correspondence, such as, in person, phone, email, letters, etc. Adheres to all company policies and procedures, as well as all applicable banking rules, regulations, and laws (including BSA/AML).
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 18 months of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Regular use of desktop/laptop computer, basic operating systems, and specialized software systems.
- Basic experience with alphanumeric data entry, Presentation/PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, and word processing.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using while numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
